Project Spotlight: Steel Structure Engineering for Gulin County Vocational Education Center
The steel structure project is the B section of the first phase of the construction project of the Gulin County Vocational Education Center in Luzhou City, Sichuan Province, and the sub-division comprehensive gymnasium; the comprehensive gymnasium is divided into three areas, the left activity venue, the middle gymnasium, and the right swimming pool, with a total projection area of 8240 square meters.
The roof of the left activity venue: a steel structure canopy made and installed with welded H-shaped steel, the canopy is of a special shape, with a maximum span of 26.5 meters, a projection area of 1745 square meters, a minimum installation elevation of 16.63 meters, and a ridge top elevation of 23.598. The bottom support point of the canopy is a concrete column, which is connected to the H-shaped steel beam by pre-embedded front planting, and the purlins are laid on the H-shaped steel beam.
The roof of the gymnasium: a triangular truss canopy made and installed with seamless steel pipes, the canopy is of a special shape, with a maximum span of 53 meters, a projection area of 3278 square meters, a minimum installation elevation of 23.598 meters, and a ridge top elevation of 25.291. The bottom support point of the canopy is a concrete column, which is connected to the pipe truss beam by pre-planting and embedding, and purlins are laid on the truss beam.
Swimming pool roof: It is divided into two structural canopies, one part is a triangular truss canopy made and installed with seamless steel pipes, and the other part is a welded H-shaped steel canopy. The overall shape is special-shaped, the maximum span of a single product is 36.5 meters, the projected area is: 3026 square meters, the lowest installation elevation: 23.598 meters, and the top elevation of the ridge: 25.291. The bottom support point of the canopy is a concrete column, which is connected to the pipe truss beam by pre-planting and embedding, and purlins are laid on the truss beam.
Key Engineering Highlights
✔ Complex Geometry: Custom-shaped designs for all three zones, demanding high-precision fabrication.
✔ Hybrid Material Application: Combined use of welded H-beams and seamless pipe trusses for optimal load distribution.
✔ Elevated Installation: Challenges in erecting structures at heights exceeding 23 meters.
✔ Seamless Integration: Coordination between steel frameworks and concrete supports via pre-embedded connections.
This project demonstrates advanced capabilities in large-span steel structures, blending functionality with architectural innovation. The gymnasium’s multi-zone design serves diverse athletic and educational needs while adhering to stringent safety and durability standards.
